March 27, 2026 - Washington DC - Representative Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) has introduced a legislative package consisting of two resolutions addressing the ongoing military escalation and humanitarian crisis in Lebanon. Citing the severe impact on Lebanese-American families in her district and the displacement of over 1.2 million people in Lebanon, the Congresswoman’s resolutions call for an immediate shift in U.S. policy and a halt to U.S. participation in the hostilities.
The legislative package includes:
1- House Resolution Standing with the People of Lebanon
This resolution calls on the U.S. government to use its diplomatic leverage to force an end to the Israeli military invasion and reject any territorial expansion or occupation of Lebanese territory. Key demands within this resolution include:
- Ending U.S. support and participation in the invasion.
- Delivering unconditional humanitarian and reconstruction aid to Lebanon.
- Extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Lebanese nationals currently in the United States.
- Supporting the safe right of return for all displaced Lebanese citizens to their homes.
- Investigating alleged war crimes, including the targeting of medical facilities, civilian infrastructure, and first responders.
2- Lebanon War Powers Resolution
Co-led by Representative Delia Ramirez (IL-03), this resolution invokes the War Powers Act to order the removal of all U.S. Armed Forces from participating in unauthorized hostilities in Lebanon. Specifically, the legislation seeks to end U.S. involvement in targeting assistance, logistics, and intelligence sharing that supports Israeli airstrikes and ground operations in Lebanon. Because War Powers Resolutions are privileged, any member of the House can force a floor vote on the legislation.
Both resolutions have garnered the endorsement of over 100 human rights, peace, and Arab-American advocacy organizations.
