The American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL) welcomes the 14th session of the Pentalateral convened today in Naqoura, where senior officials reviewed ongoing efforts to reach an enduring cessation of hostilities arrangement in Lebanon and to lay the foundation for enduring security and stability along the Lebanon-Israel border.

We note the inclusion of former Ambassador Simon Karam of Lebanon and Dr. Uri Resnick, Senior Director for Foreign Policy at Israel’s National Security Council, as civilian participants alongside Trump administration Counselor Morgan Ortagus. Their participation signals a constructive broadening of the Mechanism to ensure that de-escalation efforts are informed, not just by military channels, but also by an opportunity for a sustained dialogue between the two countries.

ATFL strongly supports diplomatic efforts that elevate Lebanese state authority to reinforce Lebanon’s sovereignty over its own territory. A durable peace framework must advance the Lebanese government’s capacity to implement its obligations, strengthen internationally supported border arrangements, and protect all civilians.

We are encouraged that participants expressed a shared commitment to further integrate civilian perspectives as the Mechanism continues its work. ATFL applauds Ambassador Issa’s efforts in this regard and looks forward to continued US leadership in support of a diplomatic pathway that reduces the risk of renewed conflict, safeguards Israel’s security, and provides the Lebanese people the safety and stability required to rebuild their economy and institutions.

For Lebanon to move toward a peaceful and prosperous future, de-escalation must come alongside state consolidation and reforms. Today’s developments represent another step in the right direction.
