Experience Policy in Action
The ATFL Internship Program gives students and young professionals a chance to gain real experience in policy, advocacy, and nonprofit work. Interns support projects that strengthen the relationship between the United States and Lebanon.
ATFL offers three internship experiences:
- Congressional Relations Intern
- Communications and Policy Intern
- Operations and Program Intern

What You’ll Do
Research
Conduct research on Lebanon and the region, analyze developments in US policy, and prepare briefing materials for stakeholders and decision-makers.
Communications
Support media outreach, draft content for newsletters and social media, and help amplify ATFL’s message to broader audiences.
Event Planning
Assist with organizing roundtables, receptions, and other events that bring together policymakers and community leaders.
Networking
Connect with professionals in government, think tanks, and international institutions. Build relationships that can advance your career in DC and international affairs.
Writing & Analysis
Draft reports and policy memos on issues affecting US-Lebanon relations. Develop critical thinking by forming your own perspective on complex matters.
Team Collaboration
Work alongside experienced professionals and fellow interns on projects that have real impact on policy and community engagement.
Who Should Apply?
Students & Recent Graduates
Open to undergraduate and graduate students or recent graduates who are eager to learn and contribute.
Interest in International Affairs
Passionate about US foreign policy, Lebanon, or the Middle East region.
Strong Communication Skills
Excellent writing and organizational skills are an asset. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Commitment to Service
Demonstrated interest in public service, community engagement, or advocacy work that makes a difference.
Program Logistics
Timeline
Internship opportunities are available three times a year during the spring, summer, and fall terms. We will begin reviewing applications in October, March, and July respectively for the upcoming term, with start dates in January, May, and August.
Location
Applicants must be based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area during the duration of the internship to participate in our hybrid work schedule.
Schedule
Interns must commit to at least 15 hours per week and work from the office two days a week. Wednesdays are mandatory office days while the second office day can be chosen between Monday and Thursday.

Update your resume and write a cover letter explaining your interest in US-Lebanon relations and what you hope to gain from the internship.

Interview Process
Selected candidates will be contacted for an interview to discuss their background, interests, and availability. Top candidates will be offered a position.
