A Journey of Resilience
Born in Lebanon, Bill Bazzi’s American story began at the age of twelve when he immigrated to the United States. Arriving as a young man, he quickly embraced the values of hard work and service. Seeking to give back to the nation that welcomed him, Bazzi enlisted in the United States Marine Corps shortly after high school, beginning what would become a distinguished 21-year military career.
During his two decades of service, Bazzi rose to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. His tenure included critical assignments in military police and intelligence units, with deployments across the Middle East and the Horn of Africa. Whether supporting humanitarian aid or counterterrorism operations, his leadership earned him numerous honors, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
Excellence in the Private and Public Sectors
Parallel to his military service, Bazzi pursued technical excellence. He earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. This expertise led him to a successful corporate career, where he served as a Quality Manager at Boeing and later as a Product Development Engineer at Ford Motor Company.
However, the call to public service remained strong. In 2021, Bazzi made history in his local community of Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Initially appointed to fill a vacancy, he was later elected as the city's first Muslim and Arab American Mayor. His tenure was marked by a steady hand during the COVID-19 pandemic and a focus on revitalizing the city’s aging infrastructure.
The Diplomatic Summit
In late 2025, Bazzi’s legacy of service reached a global stage. Recognizing his deep experience in international security and local governance, he was nominated and subsequently confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the United States Ambassador to the Republic of Tunisia.
Upon his confirmation in October 2025, he reflected on his path, noting that his purpose has always been to "continue serving in capacities which make an impact, promote peace, economic prosperity, and diplomatic partnerships".
