Washington, DC—May 28, 2026. The American Task Force on Lebanon commends President Donald J. Trump for extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Lebanese nationals in the United States for the next six months.

After Hezbollah's 2026 attack on Israel, the two sides are once again striking each other daily. Israel has invaded part of Lebanon and issued broad evacuation orders, resulting in over one million internally displaced Lebanese in a country already hosting up to one million refugees.

The situation on the ground continues to deteriorate rapidly. Ongoing armed conflict has led to widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings, hospitals, and essential services. Beirut and other major population centers have been subjected to repeated bombardment, resulting in civilian casualties and large-scale displacement. Many families have fled multiple times, unable to find stable or safe refuge.

By extending TPS, the Trump Administration is protecting Lebanese nationals from forced departure to a war zone or state of internal displacement.

ATFL extends its gratitude to the Trump Administration for its leadership on this issue while hostilities are ongoing and supports the expiration of the status when the situation on the ground in Lebanon stabilizes.

ATFL would also like to commend Reps. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-MI) for co-leading a letter with 25 of their colleagues encouraging an extension of TPS for Lebanese nationals.
