Washington, DC—May 28, 2026. The American Task Force on Lebanon commends President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin for extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for eligible Lebanese nationals currently residing in the United States for the next six months.
After Hezbollah's 2026 attack on Israel, the two sides are once again striking each other daily. Israel has invaded part of Lebanon and issued broad evacuation orders, resulting in over one million internally displaced Lebanese in a country already hosting up to one million refugees.
Lebanon continues to face severe instability amid ongoing conflict, widespread displacement, and a deteriorating humanitarian and economic situation. Continued hostilities have caused significant civilian displacement and damage to infrastructure across parts of the country, placing additional strain on an already fragile state confronting overlapping political, economic, and security crises. By extending TPS, the Trump Administration is providing important temporary protections to eligible Lebanese nationals currently in the United States while conditions on the ground remain unstable and uncertain.
ATFL is grateful for the Trump Administration’s leadership and attention to the situation in Lebanon during this difficult period and supports the temporary and humanitarian nature of TPS protections until conditions stabilize sufficiently to allow for safe return.
ATFL would also like to commend Reps. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-MI) for co-leading a letter with 25 of their colleagues encouraging an extension of TPS for Lebanese nationals.
