ATFL supports the amendment to H.R. 9807, offered by Rep. Jayapal of Washington, which would prevent the sale or transfer of white phosphorus to Israel. The IDF’s use of white phosphorus in Lebanon has caused undue harm to civilians, the local economy, and the environment. It also has the potential to undermine the current US-mediated negotiations between Israel and Lebanon.
ATFL continues to support the Trump Administration’s efforts to advance direct negotiations and de-escalation, as stated in the Trilateral Framework signed at the State Department on June 26. ATFL believes that measures aimed at protecting civilians are needed to complement US efforts to build a durable path toward peace and prosperity.
