ATFL commends the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the Internal Security Forces (ISF) for their recent operations seizing illicit explosives.
The reported seizure of nearly one metric ton of explosives raises serious concerns about threats to civilian safety and national security. ATFL welcomes Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s commitment to a thorough investigation. These seizures represent an important first step. Moving forward, meaningful progress will require identifying, arresting, and prosecuting all responsible parties and dismantling the networks behind these operations.
“Dismantling smuggling networks and strengthening border security are essential to protecting citizens, reinforcing sovereignty, and preventing Lebanon from being drawn into regional conflicts,” said ATFL President Ed Gabriel.
“ATFL continues to advocate for robust U.S. security assistance to ensure that the LAF and the ISF can extend the state’s authority throughout the country,” he added.
